Sure, there are plenty of places to see and be seen, strut your stuff, and tan all day in South Beach. But if you’re more excited by the idea of the sea than the sand, then these are some great spots where you can get in the water, put your back to the city, and swim out towards the horizon (just make sure you can get back in again….)
Haulover beach is one of south Florida’s most beautiful beaches. Nestled between the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, it has pristine white sand shores, open ocean surf, various shaded picnic facilities, beautifully landscaped sand dunes and concession stands. The beach is ideal for surfing as well as swimming.
Surfside beach is a paradise on earth and a great place for both swimmers and those looking to try a new water sport (don’t worry, there’s room for everyone!). The beach is absolutely beautiful with clean and clear water, fewer crowds than other beaches, and Miami’s famous soft white sand. Water is the perfect temperature in summer, though you may want a wetsuit in the colder months!
Lummus Park Beach is a popular park & beach area in the South Beach neighborhood and definitely worth packing a picnic and spending the entire day. The sand is pure white and the ocean water is clear, and warm. There are plenty of chairs to rent, as well as snack foods and cold drinks. Perfect for families!
