Yup, we all know the people that go to Miami solely to lie on a beach and apply tanning oil. Not one of them? Find yourself in this sunny corner of the world anyway? Never fear, behind the sun-worshippers, beach parties and bikini babes, lies a fascinating world of culture and history. Check out these spots to see the ‘other South Beach’ – all just a short walk from our awesome MyStudioMiami.com apartments…
Love sports? There are so many ways you can get your body moving in South Beach. If you’re an early bird, get up for the sunrise yoga on the beach (at 3rd street) – it’s without doubt the best way to start the day. Prefer something a little more sedate? Golfers recommend the Miami Beach Golf Club ($100 to play the course). And if you want to try something completely different, or just have a cool story to tell back home, then try your hand (or feet) at Fyboarding, a jetpack-like ariel surfing experience!
Love The Arts? Visit the New World Symphony at its beautiful campus on the worner of 17th st. and Washington Avenue. Go just to see the beautiful new Frank Gehry designed building, or catch a performance after wandering the 2.5 acres of gardens. Try to catch one of the ‘music under the stars’ performances for an unforgettable Miami evening.
Love architecture? The art deco area of Miami beach is famous for having over 800 historic buildings in one square mile. Many of the pastel-coloured art deco buildings have been restored to their former splendour, and the walking tours have really knowledgeable guides.
